THE CLIENT

The Ghigo family has been involved in coffee since the mid-1940s, when they opened their roasting company in Bra, in the province of Cuneo. In 1987 DICAF Spa was founded: a different name, but the same attention and dedication to the raw material, its processing and the product offered to its customers. Today Dicaf boasts a widespread presence throughout the territory, providing a complete service that ranges from the supply of coffee to many food products (sweetener, sugar, chocolate, barley coffee, ginseng, coffee cream…) and complementary products to the customers’ activity: cups, napkins and DICAF branded objects.

THE NEED

In 2005 DICAF wanted to completely automate the roasting plant while still using the existing system. Thus a first challenge was born, which would be followed by others that would change the history of our society forever.

THE SOLUTION

1 In 2005 the first automation project of the Torrefazione started. A new electrical panel with a PLC Ethernet module is added to the existing electrical panel and software development begins on both the PLC and PC sides.

2 In August 2005, the production of the Torrefazione went from manual to fully automatic, but it was not enough. The aim is to achieve a higher level of control and continuous improvement continues to integrate the unloading silos and production registration, mixing and packaging, fume control, temperature registration, and cooling curve control.

3 In 2007 DICAF requested to develop an ERP for their needs. To respond positively to this request, Expresso was born, which replaced the previous management system in 2010.

THE CONSIDERATION

The client’s request pushed us to create Expresso, the complete management software for the food sector. Since then, Expresso has continued, and continues to evolve day by day, in line with our corporate philosophy, for a gradual and continuous improvement of the effectiveness and efficiency of our Clients’ companies.
